Technology Tools for Teaching and Learning
Access to FacilitiesFor faculty who wish to digitize video on their own, but who lack one or more of the necessary components on their office computer, Yale offers two self-serve multimedia development facilities. The Self-Serve Area on the first floor of 175 Whitney Avenue has two Macs equipped with all the software and hardware needed for capturing, editing, and exporting video from VHS, DVD, or DV tape and burning onto CD or DVD. In addition, the Area includes equipment for VHS tape-to-tape transfers. The Self-Serve Area is open 8:30am-5pm on business days. Access is granted for all individuals with a Yale ID card. (Instructions for the two main pieces of software you will need to use, iMovie and iDVD, are provided here.)
A second facility available for foreign language faculty wishing to develop multimedia projects for instructional use is the Faculty Development Lab in the Center for Language Study. This lab is located at 370 Temple Street (at the corner of Temple and Grove). See their web site for information on access to the facility.
