A mandala is a Hindu or Buddhist graphical symbol for the universe. Some are simple, a circle with an inscribed square and a representation of some aspect of the universe on each side. Others are more complicated. The mandala on the left is such an example: a circle containing a pattern of five circles, each of which contains a pattern of five circles. On the right is the second generation of the corresponding fractal. Click on the picture for a later generation.
