Probability and the Random IFS Algorithm

Very roughly speaking, the probability p_i of applying T_i is the fraction of the whole attractor A occupied by T_i(A).

The area contraction factor of T_i is

A_i = r_is_i(cos(theta_i)cos(phi_i) + sin(theta_i)sin(phi_i))

(This is just the determinant of the matrix formulation of T_i.)

Note that if theta_i = phi_i, the area contraction factor simplifies to

A_i = r_is_i

Then the probability is given by

p_i = A_i/(A₁ + ... + A_N)
