Where to test
At the Center for Languages Study, 370 Temple St.
What to review:
- David and Helen Listening Comprehension (Lesson 1-3)
- Listening and Speaking Chinese, all the texts and Exercise B questions.
Must be very familiar with the content of the texts (Lessons 1-3)
Listening Part Format:
- Listen to the recording of 10 sentences or short passages. Each recording
or question will play only once. Then find from 4 multiple choices the one
that best expresses the meaning of the recording sentence. The multiple choices
are presented in English. You circle the right sentence. You have about 15
seconds for each question. (20%)
- In this part, you will hear 10 conversations or narratives. After each conversation,
you will hear 1 or more recording questions. Then find from 4 multiple choices
the one that could best answer the recording question. The multiple choices
are presented in English. You have 15-17 seconds for each question. All the
recording and questions will play only once. (20%)
Oral Part Format:
- In this part, you will hear about 5 textual questions on each lesson from
Listening and Speaking Chinese. You will hear a question once. Then answer
the question according to the text you have studied. Please give complete
answers. You have about 25-30 seconds for each answer. (45%). Your answer
will be recorded into the computer through your headphone. Please make sure
your microphone is placed at the right position. There will be a timer showing
how many seconds left. The timer won't start (if this is a 2 minute long answer)
until the last 15 seconds. The timer will start counting down then.
- In this part, you will hear a recording of a piece of the text you have
studied in L&S. Then you are asked to retell the text using a 3rd
person narrative. Be complete. You have about 2.5 minutes to finish the talk.
Again, the time on the screen won't start until the last 15 seconds or so.(15%)
Oral Evaluation method:
- Content: whether or not being familiar with the texts; whether an answer
is to the point and complete.
- Fluency
- Pronunciation and tones
- Grammar: whether being able to speak correctly
