Installing the Quicktime plugin

QuickTime plugins are installed if your browser was installed before you installed the QuickTime player.  You can check to see if you have the plugin by looking at the box below and seeing if you see the words "Click Here to Listen".  

If you don't have the plugin, first make sure you have a browser (either Netscape or Internet Explorer) installed. Then, install QuickTime (download and click on the QuickTime installation application); if you already have QuickTime installed, you will get a prompt saying that if you continue with the installation, you will write over previously existing files--click ok. 

During the installation, you will asked to install plugins (see screenshot) for the internet browsers you have on your computer. Check both and click OK.

WINDOWS ONLY -- After installing QuickTime,  you will need to configure the QuickTime plugin.  For instructions on configuring QuickTime 4, please click here.

1. Launch the QuickTime player application.  (These instructions are for QuickTime 5 and later. If you have Quicktime 4, then please click here )
2. Go to Preferences in the Edit menu and select QuickTime Preferences.

   

3. The QuickTime Settings window will pop up.  First, select Browser Plug-in from the drop-down window at the top (#1 below).  Click the MIME Settings button (#2 below). If you do not see the Plugin option, you may not have the plugin installed. In this case, you must reinstall Quicktime.

   

    

4. In the MIME settings window, uncheck Video, Audio, MPEG, and MP3. Click OK.

   

    

5. You've now successfully configured the QuickTime plugin and you're ready to go!
